You would be forgiven for not noticing this when you look at my paintings, but I think that what I am trying to do is to express the fullness of life. The interconnectivity of everything. Separation is an illusion, we all inter-are. Stars, roots and feathers; all part of the living, breathing fabric of life.
Marcus Aurelius said it well nearly 2,000 years ago: “Never forget that the universe is a single living organism possessed of one substance and one soul, holding all things suspended in a single consciousness and creating all things with a single purpose that they might work together spinning and weaving and knotting whatever comes to pass.”
Where my images come from can really vary. Sometimes a fully formed image pops into my mind, seemingly out of nowhere. I love when that happens. Sometimes I paint the things I see in my dreams. Sometimes I am inspired by stories, myths or poems. Sometimes I just start drawing without even thinking about anything, let my subconscious take the reins and watch random surprises appear on the page. What is amazing about imagination, is that the more you nurture it and make space for it, the more it seems to come alive.
