Epoch: Daniel Fairbairn

26 May - 7 July 2022

Epoch; a series of new works based on the landscape of the Cromarty Firth and the energy industry's architecture, through this transition between fossil and renewable energy.

“Sincerely, from deep in a coffee cup with brushes in hand.”

As a man of the coast, Dan is acutely aware of ongoing change in sky and sea, both natural and man-made. He is also living through a time of change in his working life, witnessing first-hand the energy industry moving from harnessing what nature provides, initially oil and now increasingly wind. “It's been more inspiring than I could've imagined.”

In this part of the world, many of us onshore also bear witness, and perhaps no more closely as from the shores of the Cromarty Firth, which Dingwall faces head on.  This exhibition is entirely of our environment, and we very much enjoy sharing it with you.

‘... though the rigs are modern/industrial, they are as contemporary relatively speaking as the features in many a French Impressionist painting…’ (comment from T Griffiths)
