Lian Dodd was born in East London, later moving to Kent.  Despite being raised in an urban environment, she always love the countryside, hoping that one day she would move away for a new adventure.  After starting a family, she relocated to the Scottish Highlands, where her husband's family originate.  This spectacular area provides the perfect place to focus on her love of art and the outdoors.  Lian is self-taught and works primarily in oils and acrylics, focusing on landscapes.

"I create simplified abstract landscapes by removing details to capture the essence of a place. I explore how less is more, how emotion can be communicated using line, shape, colour and texture, to unlock memories of the land. I aim to show how the energy of a place can be portrayed using basic form.  I invite the viewer to connect to the land through my work.  I am blessed to be based in the Scottish Highlands and this rugged land inspires my work and offers me endless opportunities to connect to the wild.  I take many photographs on my walks which I use to trigger memories of locations and I draw upon my experiences outdoors for my painting. Small studies are completed en plein air, but larger works are completed in my studio."
