‘Paintings in Textile & Stitch’. I have hand embroidered since childhood and now love to use this skill for mark making. I combine traditional stitches with free motion machining and a wide variety of other techniques, including painting, trapunto, working with a heat tool to transform synthetic fabrics, and using a soldering iron to make shapes and to draw on top of fabrics, adding tone and texture. I really enjoy processes and moving from one technique to another within a particular piece of work. I have found that Textile Art has boundless possibilities and love the addition of texture that comes with this way of working. Colour is very important to my work. The subjects that I like to ‘paint’ largely come from my environment and observation.
