At Alchemist Gallery in Dingwall, we stock a wide range of quality artist materials including paints, pastels, graphites, charcoals, pencils, brushes and sundries along with a selection of paper, pads, sketchbooks and journals suited to a variety of techniques and media.

 

Whilst we can't list everything we stock online, we are confident we offer a great range and will be happy to deal with enquiries to help you find what you need from our current stock, and can post items of any size within the UK. To make our delivery charges as fair as possible, we will always use Royal Mail to avoid Highlands or Islands surcharges. Postage is calculated based on the actual packed size and weight of your items.

    BEAM PAINTS

    Made in the M'Chigeeng First Nation, these naturally gorgeous paints are handcrafted using traditional indigenous techniques and blended with lightfast pigments, foraged tree sap, gum arabic and Manitoulin honey from the Beam family hives. All items are plastic-free, non-toxic and made without heavy metals as pigment sources. 

     

    Beam watercolours and gouache come in a variety of formats: some wrapped in beeswax canvas to form individual paintstones which can purchased separately or as part of a curated set. Others are poured into hand-sized travel palettes made from cedar and birch offcuts from an Indigenous-led sustainable lumber operation - these make a lovely gift. The rest are poured straight onto kraft paper to make  their 'travel cards'  - a great option if you are new to Beam paints and would like to test them out or if you are looking for something to carry with you when you plan on painting outdoors or on holiday. 

     

    Alchemist Gallery is currently the only stockist of Beam Paints in Scotland. We stock their individual paintstones, paintstone sets, birch travel palettes and a range of watercolour/gouache travel cards.

    Rosa Gallery is a Ukranian company with a mission: to make art an integral part of modern life. These fine art watercolour paints - made from finely ground pigments and gum arabic are developed and made in collaboration with professional Ukrainian artists, combining time-honoured traditions with modern techniques.

     

    These paints have been recommended by some of our own featured artists, including Tania Mackie who particularly praised the strong pigmentation and amazing value of the range - we hope that you will be just as impressed by them.

     

    We currently stock Rosa Gallery individual 2.5ml full pan watercolours in 60 shades as well as empty metal cases which you can fill with your own selection of 12 or 21 colours.

    We aim to stock a wide range of sketchbooks to suit a variety of mediums and artistic needs. Whether you're looking for something to have in your pocket while on the go, as a special gift or for sitting down with for an afternoon of being creative, we hope to have something that suits. We also have individual sheets of 300gsm Bockingford paper made in the UK. This is available in A3 (HP or NOT) or Full Imperial (NOT) which is 76x56cm.

    Earlier this year, we were delighted to be able to develop a bespoke sketchbook design using a drawing of the Dingwall skyline that we commissioned in 2022 by the late artist, Sandy Gracie.

     

    The sketchbook is available in A5, A4 and A3 and in two different formats as described here: The 'Cool Blue' covered sketchbook contains 12 sheets of 3 different types of Bockingford watercolour paper made by St. Cuthberts paper mill in Somerset. This is a perfect sketchbook for trying a range of techniques, with each surface being known for being forgiving to work with and having excellent colour lifting abilities. 

     

    The 'Real Grey' covered sketchbook contains 10 sheets of Botanical Ultra Smooth paper which is suitable for a range of techniques including watercolours, watercolour pencils, acrylics as well as dry media such as oil pastels, graphite and charcoal. This paper is known for its high level of permanence and resistance to ageing so great for making artwork or sketches that you want to last a lifetime.
