Rosalie Furlong: Out of the Sewing Box
05 March 2020 to 14 April 2020 Free entry during normal opening hours
An exhibition of illustrative and traditional quilts in artist's own designs. A riot of colour, demonstrating imagination alongside beautiful hand and machine stitch.
We are delighted to be hosting an exhibition of quilts by Dingwall's own Rosalie Furlong. A prolific and imaginative designer and maker, Rosalie has had work in solo and joint shows throughout Britain, won prizes at specialist exhibitions, and her work has found its way to homes in Europe, Canada and Australia.
Rosalie enrolled at Glasgow School of Art on her 18th birthday, following careful tutelage by ‘Artie’ Dougall of Dingwall Academy during the late 1950’s. She specialised in graphic design, and went on to teach in Glasgow, Dumbarton and North Ayrshire. Her special interest however was textiles, and in particular embroidery and quilting. She designs and makes large pieces, each with a story of its own and hand stitched finishing touches.
Rosalie will be at the gallery from 2-4pm on Thursday 5th March for the opening of her show, and will then be giving a separate talk and quilting demonstration during the show (date to be confirmed, please check back here for full details).
A full listing of exhibited works will be available here from 6th March onwards, and quilts will be for sale in the gallery and online.
